Hogeschool Gent wants to play a vital role in educating young people to become responsible citizens. Like Ghent University, Hogeschool Gent recognizes the value of sport as more than just a physical activity: it is a powerful tool for character development, cooperation, and social engagement.
By endorsing the values of Panathlon – such as fair play, respect, solidarity, inclusion, and personal development – Hogeschool Gent affirms its role as an active partner in promoting ethics in sport and in society.
The collaboration between Hogeschool Gent and Panathlon Vlaanderen is aimed at promoting ethics, integrity, and fair play in higher education, particularly for students and student-athletes.
• Panathlon Values: Panathlon International promotes ethics in sport with core values such as fair play, respect, friendship, solidarity, inclusion, and personal development. These values are enshrined in the Panathlon Declaration on Ethics in Youth Sport.
• Integration in Higher Education: Hogeschool Gent integrates Panathlon values into its policies by supporting student-athletes, offering ethics education, collaborating with Panathlon clubs, and promoting inclusive sporting events.
• Importance of Sports Ethics: Sports ethics is fundamental in higher education as it contributes to character development, provides role models for student-athletes, prevents misconduct, and promotes academic integrity.
• Hogeschool Gent’s Responsibility: The institution affirms its role in educating responsible citizens and supports the values of Panathlon as a moral guide for the future. This goal is pursued through education, research, and sports programs.
