On October 26th the third meeting of “Planet Olympia: the values of sport told by the athletes”, the periodic summit organized by Panathlon Junior of Rome to promote ethics and sports culture among young people, took place at the Foro Italico Swimming Centre in Rome.
The event, moderated by the President of the Club Lorenzo D'Ilario and sponsored by the Italian Swimming Federation, was attended by five Olympic and national female swimmers of Italy: Simona Quadarella (bronze medalist in the 800m freestyle at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo), Alessia Scortechini (gold medalist in the 4x100m freestyle at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo), Domitilla Picozzi (bronze medalist at the 2022 European Water Polo Championships in Split), Lucrezia Ruggiero (gold medalist at the 2022 World Artistic Swimming Championships in Budapest) and Sarah Jodoin Di Maria (gold medalist at the 2022 European Diving Championships in Rome).
The institutional greetings were brought by the Italian Swimming Federation of Lazio’s president, Gianpiero Mauretti, the youngest councillor of the Capitoline Assembly and member of the Sports Commission of Rome, Giorgio Trabucco, the president of Panathlon Rome, Walter Borghino, the Italy paralympic swimming team’s head coach, Riccardo Vernole, the general manager of Aquaniene, Gianni Nagni, the president of Aurelia Nuoto, Luigi Masciocchi, the president of M.R. Sport and Spain diving team’s head coach, Domenico Rinaldi.
"Two months after the 2022 European Aquatics Championships in Rome, in which Italy won the medal table, it seemed right to celebrate the disciplines of swimming, water polo, artistic swimming and diving. Although they are still very young, our female athletes achieved great and extraordinary victories, as well as they stood out for their ethical and moral values", President D’Ilario said.
The panel discussion was also attended by two PCU Committee’s representatives, Alina Baranova (PCU General Communication Manager) and Nils Van de Velden (University of Antwerp Sport Office).
