Dear Panathlon International Members,
As informed previously, Panathlon International is participating in an Erasmus+ project, which is being funded by the European Union. This project is called “Sport Against Match-Fixing". In this project, Panathlon International is joined by other relevant sporting organisations from different countries and different sports.
The goal of the project is to raise awareness to key topics related to the prevention of match-fixing and the consequences and risks of this unethical and unfair phenomenon, especially considering the negative impact it can unleash on the career of grassroot athletes. To tackle this, this Project is seeking to, amongst other, develop a web-based educational which will assist with the main objective, which is to prevent the engangement with match-fixing practices.
This project is expected to last until 2024 and Panathlon International is actively involved in the delivery of set objectives.
As Clubs and Panathlon Members, we are now seeking your assistance and for your active contribution so that these objectives can be reached. Consequently, we need your assistance with:
1) the identification of best practices that your Club/ you have developed related to the prevention of match-fixing (e.g. a Session that your Club/ you have presented and/or a result/idea launched/implemented). This can also be best practices that you have identified and that you think could be worth exploring. We're more than available to collect any ideas and suggestions.
2) the identification of sports persons (e.g. athletes, coaches, referees, managers) which are aware about the topic of match-fixing and that could participate in an anonymised questionnaire/interview? Preferably, it would be great that these sports persons are Panathlon International members.

Presented during the General Assembly in Lausanne the video of the Erasmus Project SAMF (sport against Match Fixing) of which Panathlon International is partner.
In the biennium 2022-2024 will be developed this new project that sees us engaged and on which we will keep you informed. Clubs that are interested in this issue will be able to bring their contribution.
On 21 June, Jean-Michel Saive (President of the Belgian Olympic Committee), Cédric Van Branteghem (CEO- Belgian Olympic Committee) and Patrick Van Campenhout (member EOC commission EU and International relations) were in Brussels to attend the EOC EU Office's '6th European Evening of Sports'.
The theme of the evening was "The future of major sports events in Europe" or the current challenges of European and international sport.
Speakers were:
- Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee
- Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, responsible for Sport
- Spyros Capralos, President of the European Olympic Committees
- Andrew Parsons, President of the International Paralympic Committee
- Emma Terho, President of the IOC Athletes' Commission
- Glen Killane, Executive Director of Eurovision Sport, European Broadcasting Union
The panel was moderated by Olympian Sabine Appelmans.
Patrick has done a lot of networking in this European Olympic Family to promote Panathlon International.
The historic evening culminated in a Memorandum of Understanding between the European Olympic Committee represented by its President, Mr Spyros Capralos, and the European Union Sport Department represented by Ms Mariya Gabriel. With this document, an agreement was made for these two entities to work very closely together on all facets of the sporting landscape, such as, social environment, health, youth, education of the sporting environment.
On October 16, 1968, Tommie Smith and John Carlos showed their raised, black-gloved, fists at the Olympic podium ceremony in Mexico. The silent gesture became an icon in the Afro-American civil rights movement and in the fight against oppression of disadvantaged groups around the world. This peaceful but unequivocal protest, six months after the murder of Martin Luther King, made the Black Power movement front-page news all over the world. For Tommie Smith and John Carlos, the consequences were dramatic: They were heavily criticized in their own country, received death threats and were excluded as athletes. This was for them the start of a life as activists and role models for many generations, including the current Black Lives Matter movement.
With this honorary doctorate, KU Leuven honors their moral courage and their nonviolent resistance in the fight against social injustice. The official ceremony will be preceded by an optional Round Table discussion.

Patrick Van Campenhout and Paul Standaert were representing Panathlon International during this important event. The speeches of the 2 heroes , both late 70th ,were very emotional and the received a standing ovation for their courage, perseverance and dedication.
Olympic Day commemorates the founding of the International Olympic Committee on 23 June 1894 by Baron Pierre de Coubertin.
In 2022, the theme for Olympic Day is Together, For a Peaceful World
On 13 and 14 June 2022, the annual meeting of the EPAS Board of Directors and the meeting of the EPAS Advisory Committee was held in Strasbourg, which also marks the 15th anniversary of EPAS - Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport, a Council of Europe (COE) body.
During the meeting, elections were held for the Bureau of the Advisory Committee, re-electing Kole Gjeloshaj (ISF) as President, Mogens Kirkeby (ISCA) as Vice-president, Janez Sodrznik (TAFISA), Pauline Johanet (Peace and Sport), Charlotte Girard-Fabre (IFSO) and Baiba Veisa (EFPM) as members, while Emily Shaw (UEFA) was elected speaker for gender equality.
The event continued with the joint meeting of the Board and Advisory Committee, chaired by Alexandre Husting from Luxembourg. The meeting covered several topics, reflecting on the EPAS core values of promoting and ensuring that sport is ethical, inclusive and safe.

The CIFP World Fair Play Award Ceremony was held in Budapest on 12 June 2022 to honour the winners for the years 2019 and 2020, which the pandemic had prevented from being celebrated.
Among the award winners, many were those nominated by Panathlon Clubs through Panathlon International.
We would therefore like to congratulate the winners and the Clubs, Areas and Districts that worked to present them to CIFP and obtain the deserved awards.
The winners for the year 2021 have not yet been decided.

Panathlon International has learned with deep sadness that dear Sergio Allegrini has left us. We remember him President of the Club of La Malpensa and Secretary General of PI from 2007 to 2012.
President Pierre Zappelli, in particular, remembers with emotion that when he was President of the District Switzerland and Liechtenstein a fruitful collaboration had been established and Sergio went with pleasure to Switzerland to work in the interest of the development of Panathlon.
His death leaves a deep void in our Association, in the General Secretariat and in those who knew him. He will remain in the memory of all of us for his great love for Panathlon International and for sport, for his commitment at all levels and for his constant efforts to spread our values.
On behalf of the International Board and the entire Panathletic family we express our condolences and sympathy to the club and the family.

With deep sadness we have learned that you have suddenly left us. We extend our deepest sympathy to your family and your club. We remember you for your open and welcoming laugh, your lively eyes, your great generosity, availability and competence. You were a pillar for the Secretary and for Panathlon International at all levels. There are so many memories that bind us. We will not forget you Sergio, we will always be your "girls". RIP
