Panathlon International was represented in Brussels at the Erasmus+ Sport Info Day, a key European event bringing together policymakers, institutions, and sport organisations to discuss the future of sport in Europe and the priorities of the Erasmus+ Sport programme. Panathlon International was represented by Fábio Figueiras, responsible for Erasmus+ projects and member of the CCSE of Panathlon International.

The event opened with a high-level round table moderated by Sophie Beernaerst (EACEA) and featuring European Commissioner Glenn Micallef, responsible for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, alongside representatives of the European Parliament and national sport authorities. Discussions highlighted sport as a public good and a powerful tool for inclusion, health prevention, education and social cohesion, with grassroots sport identified as the foundation of the European Sport Model.

A key message was the strong demand for Erasmus+ Sport funding: only 13–14% of applications are currently supported, despite the high quality of projects submitted. This underlines both the competitiveness of the programme and the importance of well-structured, values-based initiatives.

During the event, Panathlon International also had the opportunity to exchange directly with Commissioner Glenn Micallef, presenting the organisation’s mission and ongoing work in ethics, integrity, education and sport values. The Commissioner was informed that he will receive a formal invitation to attend Panathlon International’s Congress in 2026.

The Info Day also marked the first public presentation of the preliminary results of the EU consultation on the European Sport Model, reaffirming principles such as sporting merit, solidarity between elite and grassroots sport, good governance, volunteering and community engagement.

Alongside the institutional sessions, Panathlon International strengthened its international network through meetings with sport federations, NGOs, innovation hubs and academic institutions from across Europe, further reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in European sport projects.

Panathlon International remains fully committed to contributing to a values-based, inclusive and ethical sport ecosystem in Europe, in line with the objectives of Erasmus+ and the European Sport Model.

Panathlon Club Solothurn - Sport Forum

The annual ‘Sport Forum’ event was organised by the Panathlon Club Solothurn led by its President and former member of the P.I. Expansion Committee, Carla Spielmann.

Moderator of the discussion was Peter Wüthrich, President of the District Switzerland/Lichtenstein.

Present was Fabio Figueiras Member of the Board and Director of International Relations - Panathlon Club of Lisbon.

The discussion took place in a very scenic location, full of interested participants, including many panathletes, including the President of the Lausanne Panathlon Club.

The panel was rounded out by Olympic and Paralympic athletes, who discussed their participation in Paris 2024, as well as their views on key sporting topics, in particular on issues close to the panathletic movement, such as the importance of anti-doping prevention.

Panathlon Club of Lisbon President, Mr. Mario Almeida, was invited by the Portuguese Speaking Olympic Committes (ACOLOP), mainly by its President, IOC Member Filomena Fortes, to participate in the General Assembly of ACOLOP and to present the Ética Summit Congress, which hosted its 3rd edition and had more than 4000 registrations from all Portuguese speaking countries in the world.

This was a good moment to show to the different Olympic Committees, namely, the Portuguese Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the Kapverde Olympic Committee, the Angola Olympic Committee, the Guinea Bissau Olympic Committee, the São Tomé Olympic Committee, the vision and mission of Panathlon Movement and our initiatives and actions. It was also decided that a MoU would be signed between Panathlon Club of Lisbon and the ACOLOP to further strengthen its cooperation, mainly with the upcoming editions of Etica Summit.

  • European Week of Sport. The GO!

    - Responding to the call of Panathlon Gent, the GO! Gent Group of schools started the week of 23/9 with a sport activity and participated as such at the European week of sport. 13 primary schools and more than 4000 pupils enjoyed to start their new week of school with a funny and sporty moment. Panathlon IB member Paul Standaert was interviewd by the local news to describe how this initiative fits in the Partnership of P.I. in the partnership with EWOS.  The GO! Schools organized the sports promotion in collaboration with Panathlon Gent vzw, a network platform for sports ambassadors. “We argue for the importance of equality in sport. It is important that all children have equal opportunities to exercise. This joint moment at all schools fits in with that philosophy, "says Paul Standaert, board member of Panathlon Ghent and chairman of the Board of Directors of Scholengroep Gent.   about the european week of sport Read More
